Manchester United, one of the oldest football clubs in the world, has confirmed a partnership with the company blockchain Tezos as their sports equipment and technology partner.
The purpose of the club is to introduce its fans to technology Web3 decentralized. The team will appear in the new kits for the first time on Saturday against Southampton.
Manchester United's previous sponsorship deal with Aon expired last month and Tezos will pay the previously agreed 33% of $27 million per year.
Tezos (XTZ) connects fans with Web3
Tezos will bring MU more exposure to Web3 technologies and can play an important role in launching more products and collectibles for digital fans soon.
The majority of global sports brands are experimenting with technology that takes blockchain and Web3 as the hub to connect the club with the fans.
Manchester United aim to build a tentative fan ecosystem based on metaverse on the Tezos blockchain to provide a personalized experience for fans.
Victoria Timpson, CEO of alliances and partnerships at Manchester United, said:
“This is an extremely exciting partnership for Manchester United as it unites us with one of the most advanced, trusted and sustainable blockchains in the field of technology that will revolutionize the way everyone, including our Club and fans, can interact. ”
Tezos has also signed sponsorship deals with Formula 1's McLaren Racing and Major League Baseball's the New York Mets.
